Not every window needs a curtain, if you have a cute little porthole window, or a Muntin cottage window overlooking a beautiful garden (that you maintain) then why cover it up? if your not overlooked and the window has character and is not in an area that needs privacy, keep it as, it is if you like it. Note the "if you like it" as that is most important. You could have the most beautiful stained glass window but if you want to dress it with a curtain then do so, interior design has to work for you and your home. Curtains serve a purpose and they should do it well, your pole or track should glide effortlessly https://www.silentgliss.co.uk/ if you cant reach the window with ease opt for a pull cord or electric. When looking at curtain ideas we would think about the age of the property, area and the overall style. A new build home will normally be a blank canvas with neutral walls and carpets, quite clean and bright. This means it is a great canvas to add bright or moody colours, textures and bold designs if you wish. Curtains and blinds are the perfect way to do this. The image to the left shows an arch window with dark wood window grille, parquet flooring and dark blue sofa. These things alone could look quite cold and uninviting. The the fresh flowers, mixed cushions in yellows and blues and the country style floral & bird fabric on a light cotton background gives a pretty & soft "country look" that is also modern and sophisticated. Think of a colour pallet that will tie in with your home and your interior design style. A cottage would look great with pastels and delicate floral's but it could also work with rustic materials and chunky wool and hessian fabrics, bay window curtains with wrought iron poles https://www.cameronfuller.co.uk/ or neat roman blinds. Work out what your style is what you are drawn to then work out how to make it work for the property. Use your chosen style from room to room to give your home a designer look.

Once you have decided which interior design style suits you best, soft/feminine, modern/contemporary, rustic/industrial, modern/scandi, country/coastal chic ect. You can start planning your rooms. Think about your rooms and how you use them, do you have a separate dining room, if so make this room a feature, it is a room you spend the least amount of hours in. Be bold! Go for drama! It is a room that has the least traffic flow and interference so you can show it off. It may only have a small window normally ideal for a roman blind but the dining table and the curtains are going to be the main feature of this room. Experiment with your darker side, use fabrics that are not practical elsewhere, faux silks and velvet's. Dark colours create an ambiance. If this bold dramatic look does not suit your theme at all then go for what will the theory will remain the same, separate dining room = dressed table, floor length curtains and good lighting. The custom made curtains will really be the talk of the table!
This room blends traditional with contemporary very well. White painted wood framed windows and floorboards with a white "mist" wall colour, creates a great blank canvas that is fresh and bright whilst still using natural & original materials. The ornate fireplace, mirror and furniture legs gives a nod to the traditional, to compliment this there are luxurious fabrics, in rich "moss green" velvet's and silky satin's. The made to measure curtains with a goblet heading look elegant but not over-powering. The colour scheme is calming and mixes subtle & timeless patterns. The use of metals in the vase's and lamp keep this look up to date.
Notice how the main and most expensive items i.e the custom made curtains and furniture are soft and timeless. The biggest injection of colour comes from logs even the "green" sofa is a muted green. This image is room set image to show curtains inspiration!
This interior design image is stunning, if you are looking to show off a gold theme & custom made curtains. There is already a lot going on in this image, the parquet flooring, gold black and silver metals, a different parquet on the coffee table, and gold abstract wall art. If a client came to us with this room and needed help selecting the right made to measure curtains we would have looked at this and suggested bringing out the gold from the art in the cushions, or even in the accent chairs themselves but doing something softer for the curtains i.e the biscuit colour on the lamp shade. Still using damask pattern which is elegant and timeless or a regal looking stripe. A colour scheme of chocolate, cream liqueurs with splashes of gold would be perfect.
With a room so grand already you don't want the curtains to over-shadow the room. With windows this large you also want the curtains to last any trends that come and go. The windows should also be a feature themselves. Curtains are not mean to disguise windows but dress them.
Use your local experts for advice on the right made to measure curtains for you and your windows.
